We usually expect crime thrillers to be serious because of the subject matter, and it takes a very particular attitude to make them funny at the same time. It’s a tricky balancing act, and Kiran Manral did it nicely in her new launch ' The Kitty Party Murder'.

The suspenseful storyline, assorted characters and twists all add up to really good entertainment. The observant take on the daily on-going societal life and the rooted sarcasms added the much needed conceptualization. But, Kay's obsession about her gained weight made the novel slightly dispirited. There are repetitive, unvaried and the same kind of monologue which blemished the soul of the novel. Nevertheless, Kiran Manral sprinkled the self-evident humor for the perfect mix of intrigue and amusement. The title may sound misleadingly tragic, but this story is guaranteed to crack you up.
